[a] Joseph, son of Jacob, is the perfect foreshadowing of this truth: He explained to his brethren who during the 7 years of famine came to him in Egypt that “G-d send me before you to preserve for YOU a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for YOU – i.e. ISRAEL - many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here but G-d…” – Gen. 45:7-8. Israel at the time were but 70 souls – Gen. 46:27. Yet alongside those mere 70 souls all the Egyptians were saved – Gen. 47:25, and “all the earth” came to Joseph as well to escape the death of famine – Gen. 41:57

[b] The separation of Abraham from Ur of Chaldea and from Lot did not suffice. Another, invisible separation occurred at the time of Abram and Lot’s parting -- that of separating Abram and his future seed from the rest of mankind.

The race of man up until the flood was a race of “Adam” descended from the “first” Adam. This race was totally wiped out by the flood except for Noah and his sons [Gen. 7:21-23]. They were the only Adam men who crossed from the era before the flood into the post-deluvian age. Abram, through the lineage of Shem, became the last seed of the former Adam race when G-d singled him out as such at the time of Lot’s disjoining. Henceforth the human race in general is called Enosh - (human) Flesh, in accordance with G-d’s words in Genesis 6:3, “My spirit shall not abide in Man – Adam for ever, for he is flesh, but his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.” 

In order to fully understand the significance of the difference between Adam and Enosh, we need to look at their first occurrence in the Scriptures. Adam (male and female), we know, was made in the Image and after the Likeness of G-d. After the trespass, which resulted in the gradual corruption of this race, they had children. The mentioning of the third child, Seth, follows the sentence: “This is the book of the GENERATIONS of Adam.” This is for a reason, for now we shall be given a genealogy of this race, as well as its ensuing history. 

Immediately after this sentence, which states one more time that G-d originally created Adam in His own Image and after His Likenes, we are informed that Adam’s third child, Seth, is now in the image and after the likeness of his fallen parents (Gen. 5:1-3). I.e., he genetically inherited their henceforth corrupt nature (Romans 5:12, 14-19, 21) and, in order that there be absolutely no doubt about it, we are given the name of Seth’s firstborn: Enosh. This name symbolizes the fallen nature of the once sinless Adamic race, having become a “sinful” race, which eventually would degenerate to mere “human flesh”, void of the Spirit of  G-d.

However, Abram was still of the Adamic race, although the degeneration of the race is shown in the rapid decline in age. Whereas Noah and his sons still reached an age of several hundred years (Gen. 9:29; 11:10-11), Abram died at the age of 175 (Gen. 25:7).

Enosh[01] indicates a feeble, sickly and woeful race of mortal men void of the Spirit of G-d, which hardly bears any resemblance with the former race of Adam. The words ish [male human], and ishah [female human] merely refer to gender and are also used in the plural [anashim and nashim], whereas Adam and Enosh are used only in the singular, indicative of the type [race] of humanity.

G-d chose this last one of the former Adamic race to become the father of the new Adamic race, recreated through G-d's grace by faith in Messiah. Yeshua’s two genealogies of Matthew and Luke also attest to Yeshua being a BEN ADAM [and Ben Abraham, Ben David], who, in Luke 3:38, is referred to as “Son of G-d.” Alluding to this fact Yeshua never referred to Himself - when speaking in the third person - as “ben enosh” but only as Ben Adam, the Son of Man [Matt. 11:19; 12:8, etc.] of the more dignified humanity of Adam

Paul established this factor even further by referring to Yeshua as the Last Adam [1 Cor. 15:45], and by speaking in Romans 11 of branches cut off from their wild olive tree and engrafted into the cultivated olive tree, through faith in Yeshua. Being joined into the cultivated olive tree causes these branches to be filled with and converted to the kind and nature of the cultivated tree. The wild tree is the Enosh-mankind, the cultivated one the Adam-mankind.

G-d separated Abraham from general humanity – Enosh – by means of a covenant. Hence, the “Root – Sion” of the cultivated olive tree is the Abrahamic covenant. All who are branches of that tree – whether natural branches or engrafted ones – partake of that root and tree. 

G-d placed yet a further “chasm” between the wild olive tree of general humanity – Enosh - and the cultivated one – Adam - raised up through Abraham, by means of Torah and His specific prohibition of intermarriage. The creative law that undergirds these progressive steps of separation is found in Genesis 1:11-12, 24-25: “Let the earth put forth vegetation… each according to its kind… So G-d created …each according to their kinds…” Just as a thornbush does not bring forth figs, so does the race of Enosh not produce a race of Adam

Satan has tried with all his might to thwart G-d’s purpose by having the Jews, all of whom are “B’nei Adam,” engrafted into the wild olive tree in order to change their nature into that of Enosh. Nevertheless many millions of Jews rather preferred death than being joined to the race of Enosh. The Spanish Inquisition even created the infamous “certificado di sangue” – “Blood Certificate,” which was to attest to a former Jew’s “pure Christian blood” by him being the 7th generation of intermarriage with Gentile “Catholic Christians.” Since the Church of Rome rejected the Jews as G-d’s chosen people and instead labeled Israel as the “seed of the serpent” while calling itself the “New Israel of G-d,” Jews who converted were forced into abandoning their own, cultivated olive tree. Indeed, many Jews were lost to the House of Israel, while others, through their genuine faith in and baptism into Yeshua remained yet part of the cultivated tree, albeit hidden.

An engrafted branch takes on the nature of the tree into which it is engrafted and of its root. Hence, we can clearly perceive Satan’s scheme of turning things upside down, “converting” the Adamic humanity of the Jews into that of Enosh. Were it not for the Jewish resistance to forced conversion and G-d’s separation of His people from general humanity, the Abrahamic covenant people of Adamic descent would long have ceased to exist. The period of “Enlightenment” --- “to the man – enosh all rights, to the Jew – ben adam none,” almost succeeded in swallowing up the Jewish people had it not been for something as horrible as the Nazi Holocaust. G-d apparently preferred His people to become a living sacrifice whom He would raise up in the Resurrection rather than having them cut off from Israel forever. (At least that is the only explanation for the Holocaust I ever could find to make any sense at all.)

And now, in these last days, we see a people descended from the lineage of Ham (see Gen. 10:6, 13-14 – Egypt, father of the Caphtorim from whom the Philistines originate, who came from Caphtor, that is Crete), who call themselves “Palestinians,” contending for the promised Land, challenging G-d’s covenant, oath and promise, intent on utterly destroying Israel as is written in Ps 83: 3-4: “They lay crafty plans against G-d’s people; they consult together against His protected ones. They say, ‘Come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”[02]

Therefore, let every engrafted saint understand, know and realize the importance of the tree into which he was engrafted and thank G-d for having been made a fellow citizen and co-heir of its covenants, heritage and inheritance.
