Dear Friends of Israel and Or Tzion,

May the peace of G-d which passes all understanding be a garrison about your heart and mind in Messiah Yeshua our Lord every moment of every day in this New Year 2005. May the Lord be the stability of your life and the solid Rock upon which you stand in a heaving sea of evil. May He be your Refuge and your Defense. May you trust in Him implicitly. May you be comforted by His promise that although the troubles and trials of the righteous may be many He will deliver him out of them all¹.

The enormous tragedy that has just struck the coastlines of Asia and Africa has people still numbed with shock. New Year’s Eve came and went without the customary boisterous folly. Their minds filled with the awful images of a Noahic catastrophe, people are gripped by fear of the possible aftermath --- widespread epidemics! World experts are sought for advise.

While the world begs for understanding, no one seeks the Word of G-d or the Almighty for counsel. The prophets’ voices – their wisdom and warning – are drowned out by the noise of the world's media.

Moreover...

Why would G-d allow such terrible disaster? Has G-d anything to do with this?

G-d and His Word are much misunderstood. For while He is kind, merciful and benevolent, He is nevertheless awesome and terrible in His might and judgment, and greatly to be feared. All His promises are true – those for good and those for evil, those for a blessing and those for a curse, those for reward and those for vengeance. Therefore it is most unwise to challenge the Almighty and defy the G-d of all the earth, thinking "there is no G-d; He neither sees nor hears and will not call to account."²

Here are some reasons G-d gives for disasters striking the earth:

"... The earth lies polluted… its inhabitants.. have transgressed the laws,  disregarded and violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants suffer for their guilt...  the gladness of the earth is banished. Desolation is left in the city… For thus it shall be in the midst of the earth among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, as at the gleaning when the vintage is done."³

It is not G-d Who is to blame nor "mother nature", but we ourselves who have abused the earth. Great, irreparable damage has been done with multiple underwater, underground and above ground atomic explosions, which affect the earth’s interior. Although we don't yet know the full extent of the damage, scientists have observed heightened activity of plate-tectonics and an increase in volcanic action and in movement of the continental plates⁴.

In the Book of Revelation 11:16-18 the 24 elders who sit on their thrones before G-d worship and thank Him "for destroying the destroyers and corrupters of the earth."
